Day of Miner/Day of Donetsk

Celebrated on one day (last Sunday in August), these two holidays are an excellent demonstration that mining and coal are a vital part of Donetsk life. Joy and amusement hang in the air. Celebrations kick off in the morning with amateur concerts, rattles, festivals and exhibitions. Entertaining contests are organized in parks and squares. Gala concerts pulling Ukrainian and Russian pop-stars take place on Lenin Square  or Park Shcherbakova ending with fireworks, while some fun-seekers tend to stay up all through the night. The holiday is a great chance to get a closer look at Donetsk and the local life. The city launches art exhibitions of Donetsk painters and sculptors as well as an extensive flower festival Roses of Donetsk.
