Day of Liberation of Donbass

The centre of Donbass – Donetsk – was liberated from the Nazis on 8 September 1943. This day has been a big holiday for this region since then. Celebrations resemble everything taking place on the Victory Day: laying wreaths to memorials, monuments and cenotaphs; public speeches of local officials; theatre performances, concerts and musical events. Saur-Mohyla is the top attraction with its various grand celebrations. The holiday is significant for the local citizens but not a public day-off in Ukraine.
