Labor Day
|
|

Ukraine, like many other CIS countries, celebrates the Labour Day on 1 and 2 May as a national holiday. A pompous parade and the original Soviet colouring vanished long ago. Only small-scale marches by the Socialist and the Communist parties remained. Today, traditional features include an exhibition of employment opportunities on Lenin Square and fun entertainments in public parks. Many locals choose to go to country and cook a barbeque or shashlyk in the open air. The 1 May is often preceded by mass green campaigns in the parks and public gardens to make the city clean for oncoming holidays. The Labour Day often goes together with weekends and the Victory Day (9 May) delivering a week of widely hailed May holidays.
