Unlike many other Ukrainian cities eg Kiev, Odessa or Lvov, Donetsk doesn’t have a long-standing tradition of tourism. Yet much has changed since Ukraine gained independence in 1991. Realizing the industrial appeal of the region, more and more international travellers visit the city. An aircraft has long been the best way to get to Donetsk from Europe, given the long distance between them.

On the other hand, a car tour across the whole Ukraine might be unforgettable. The intention to see the country over a day might also encourage you to take a train.
