Phones and faxes

Rooms at most hotels are equipped with landlines. However, before making a call, check the rates at the reception, as prices might sound repelling.
Phones at private apartments don’t necessarily have a trunk call option. You’ll have to ask the landlord and pay him the charge.
Another way for an international call is a telephone card. State-owned provider Ukrtelecom offers UAH 9, 12, 15, 24, 48 cards that can be used at any public payphone or post office. Cards are sold in dedicated kiosks and sometimes at press press outlets, as well as post offices.
For a city call, just dial the seven-digit number.
For a trunk call, dial “8”, wait for the tone and then dial the city code and phone number.
For an international call, dial 8, wait for the tone, then dial 10 followed by country code, city code and phone number
To call to Donetsk from any country, dial “38” (Ukraine code), then “062” (Donetsk code) followed by a seven-digit phone number.
You can also phone from a post office either by using a card or assisted by an operator. In the second case, pre-payment is required. The charge will be deducted from your pre-payment amount on minute-fee basis.
Some post offices can send faxes. The charge would be in the region of UAH 5 for 1 minute.
